She married Marvin Victor Maxwell in 1921 at Conway County, Arkansas.
Mary died on 16 August 1935 at Sikeston, Missouri, at age 33. Arkansas Newspaper obituary. Newspaper unknown. - "MRS. MARY E. MAXWELL - Mrs. Mary E. Maxwell, who resided with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Crouthers, prominent farmers who reside in Sikeston, Missouri, ended her life Friday, August 16, following six years of illness. Funeral services were conducted at the Chruch of Christ at Sikeston the following Sunday. Walter W. Southern, minister, and interment was made in Memorial Park cemetery with Welsh Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Maxwell was born in Conway County, November 12, 1901, and was married in this county. Her husband preceeded her in death a number of years. To this union one son, Charles R. Maxwell, was born, and survives his parents. Surviving her other than her son, who lives in Kerville, Texas, are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Crouthers, is a twin sister, Mrs. Margaret Roberts of San Diego; four other sisters, Mrs. Floyd A. Matthews of Sikeston, Mrs. Wynette Davis and Mrs. Lois Hunter of New Madrid, MO., and Mrs. Opal Steffen of Almada, Calif, three brothers, Henry, Edgar and Leacll Crouthers, all of Sikeston. With the exception of Mrs. Roberts and Mrs. Steffen all attended the last rites of their loved one. Other relatives from a distance were the daughter-in-law, Mrs. Charles R. Maxwell, of Kerrville, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Frazier and daughter, Miss Marvine, of Cleveland. Mrs. Frazier of Cleveland, Mrs. Dovie Martin and Luther Maxwell of Lanty, N. H. Maxwell of Hughes and A. V. Maxwell of Corpus Christi, Texas, are sisters and brothers of Mrs. Maxwell's deceased husband. Friends of the family in this county learned with much regret of the tragic death of Mrs. Maxwell, which was caused by despondency over ill health.".1
Her body was interred on 18 August 1935 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Sikeston, Missouri, at Memorial Park Cemetery.
